A bunch of flowers picked from the garden makes a lovely display, but you don’t have to confine yourself to garden flowers only. Your vegetable plot can provide curled, crisped and oak-leaf lettuces for use as cut foliage arrangements. Dig up any lettuces that have gone to seed, roots and all, and wash away the soil. You’ll be surprised how long-lasting they are when used in a floral display. From the herb garden, pick large sprigs of parsley, dill or fennel for adding a delicate touch. Purple sage and yellow variegated sage are also attractive in floral displays. Mix pale yellow roses, acid green euphorbia bracts and rue, purple sage and periwinkle foliage for a typical summery display.
