There are several plants whose flowers open mainly in the evening, some of which are fragrant, and they’re usually white or pale in colour. A popular one is the tobacco plant , a half-hardy annual. Another is night-scented stock but the flowers of these plants are insignificant - mix some virginian stock with the seed and scatter where they are to bloom. Evening primrose is a biennial plant and has large, sweetly scented yellow flowers which open after dusk. Seed can be sown where the plants are to grow and self-sown seedlings appear each spring from the established plants. And then there is honeysuckle, an established plant blooms for most of the summer and is very effective as a screen - and it will flourish in a shady position.
