Licence-free Cars (Voiturettes) You will no doubt have seen these little cars about, some very ramshackle and transporting Mum, Dad, children, dogs and the weekly shopping (even though they were designed to carry two passengers only!), and now some very smart - have you seen the two-tone version, or the ‘cabriolet’ version? We saw one of these in the South of France, just the job for nipping (not quite the right word as they are regulated to about 60kpm and usually can be seen at the front of a long line of traffic) from villa to beach to cafe. There is also a van, a pick-up and a beachbuggy, probably more too.
Several companies make them but here in France the makes you see most of all are Aixam and Microcar. In France, because of their engine and body size, these cars do not need a licence and are ideal for people who have never taken/passed a driving test. They are also a solution for people who have had their licences revoked for whatever reason. But they are not a cheap option ... prices start at around 8,000 euros! |
