Dear Editor,
I am sure your readers, the majority, who like me came here for a better quality and hopefully less expensive way of life are achieving just that However, I have been made aware by one of your advertisers that once again a minority of your readers seem to think that this is a 'no cost' society expecting services and help from the advertiser for free.
It seems they have complained about being charged for phone calls, e-mails and the resolution of their query by the advertiser in question. If they did not have the skills they would hire a builder, plumber, electrician or lawyer to carry out the work and would not expect them to do it for free, so why, when their lack of skill is the French language and dealing with the minefield of bureaucracy do they expect your advertiser, who clearly states their rate before any work is undertaken, to make phone calls, fill in forms, sort out problems with the Mairie, EDF, water companies, etcetera for free.
Does that minority not realise that the people who advertise in your magazine are regitered businesses and will charge for their services? If they feel that the charges are too high then they should say no thank you and go find another way to resolve their problem. Thank you for letting me stand on my soap box for a few minutes.

Thank you Danny. This is not the first of this sort of letter but Danny does sum it up well. Recently another of our advertisers was reported to the authorities as a ‘spite’ measure - it has backfired and the woman complainant may find it difficult to get assistance from professional sources in future as her complaint was unjust and rather petty and word gets about as the aggrieved - a recognised and reputable KC registered dog breeder - has been given a clean bill of health for his business and has received a number of good testimonials from his clients. It really is challenging to make a lot of money in business particularly in France so why some people have the need to make things more difficult is beyond us. Please let us have your views on this....Ed |
